The Nest is a recently opened luxury hotel located in Palo Alto, CA, for which April Philips Design Works was the landscape architect. The intent of the landscape design for the hotel was to create an intimate “Haven” for guests.
The general aesthetic intent was modern Mediterranean. Accent furniture is weathered wood and paving is light-colored stone or concrete pavers.
The plant palette was chosen to be very drought tolerant and appropriate for Palo Alto’s very Mediterranean climate with large Olives in the central lounge area and Japanese Maples as accents in side plantings.
This linear double-sided fireplace adds coziness to the outdoor lounge at night, and the beautiful wooden wall it is housed inside brightens up the space during the day.
Lounge seating located throughout the site is always surrounded by planting to make even this seating area next to the parking lot comfortable and inviting.
Planted tree wells help to green up the parking lot and address stormwater.
The unique water feature creates an oasis-like atmosphere at the entry.
APDW is very excited to have been a part of this beautiful new “Haven” and we hope you are too!
